Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
